Surface Web

What is World Wide Web

The World Wide Web was invented in 1991 at CERN, the particle physics research lab near Geneva, Switzerland. The Internet is the backbone and the Web is a certain way of exchanging information over the Internet. Remember the internet is different from the web. The Internet is comprised of the network protocols, machines, switches, routers, fiber optic cables and junction boxes over which data is transferred. The Web is comprised of the HTTP protocol and the web page code that allows people to share content and files over the Internet Any computer can be a web server and any computer can be a web client. The computer you use to surf the web is a web client.

Surface Web

The Surface Web (also called the Visible Web, Indexed Web, Indexable Web) is the portion of the World Wide Web that is readily available to the general public and searchable with standard web search engines. If you think that search engines like Google, Bing, Wikipedia (there are more!) know about everything on the internet, you’d be wrong. The section of the internet that is being indexed by search engines is known as the “Surface Web” or “Visible Web”, which is only 4% of the internet. The reason search engines can see the surface web is through their web crawlers that read the website data, index it, and follow the links. So the surface web is anything a search engine can find and index.

Deep Web

Deep web, the part of the web not indexed by a Search Engine. The web that exists in places that can not be accessed by search engines. Michael K. Bergman is credited with coining the term deep web in 2001 as a search indexing term. You yourself spend a lot of time in the Deep Web, but you probably do not know it, like accessing bank sites, webmail, education etc. The deep web, invisible web, or hidden web are parts of the World Wide Web whose contents are not indexed by standard web search engines. The deep web is hidden behind HTTP and includes many very common uses such as webmail, online banking, medical records, scientific records, legal documents and services, Data etc. The content of the deep web can be located and accessed by a direct URL or IP address and may require a password or other security access past the public website page. They make 90% of the internet. The line between the surface web and deep web can be a little blurry.

Dark Deep

Dark web is a subset of the deep web. The dark web does consist of servers which cannot be accessed by the search engine. Dark web is all about anonymity. Dark web is any Web-like network that uses proprietary protocols or requires special software to access. They are the World Wide Web content that exists on darknets, overlay networks that use the Internet but require specific software, configurations, special browsers or authorization to access. The dark web includes friend-to-friend, peer-to-peer networks, They make 6% of the network. In the Dark web, you can find illegal marketplaces selling drugs, stolen data, and even hitman services. Between 2011 and 2015, nearly $ 200 million worth of drugs were sold on the Dark Web. Most markets use cryptocurrency. Most Dark Web markets usually don’t last longer than a year.8 Months is the average lifespan of a Dark web marketplace. Greater anonymity allows cybercriminals to do their thing, and the rise of the Bitcoin cryptocurrency which allows incognito payments has also contributed to illegal trade.
